Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "we as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values. We must rapidly begin the shift from a "thing-oriented" society to a "person-oriented" society. When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, materialism, and militarism are incapable of being conquered."
After the Markets Close examines the pillars of our current private, for-profit economy, how these institutions fail to meet basic human needs or protect human rights, and proposes how we can change the economy to better serve the needs of all people.
On January 19, 2008, Project 2050 presented at the Whatcom Human Rights Task Force sponsored MLK event at Whatcm Community College.
